Five Nights at Freddy's Movie Review
Five Nights at Freddy's, the Good Bad and Ugly.
Ahh yes the game that scarred all of our childhoods. Its the reason I will never go back to Chuckey Cheese's, and its one of the highest grossing horror game franchises of all time. Unfortunately the movie did not have as much luck as the games.
Plot 3/10
This videogame series had one of the most in-depth plot lines of any videogame ever created. I was hoping that would shine into the movies, unfortunately the plot was confusing, irrational, and broke the lore of the FNAF universe. When thinking of the many plot holes giving this movie a 3/10 is generous. There was no reason to include the custody battle, the fist security guard was useless, and Elizabeth Afton was keeping secrets for no reason. The one part I did like was that the movie actually took five nights. It started with the first night being easy, and they got progressively harder.
The Theme 1/10
This one is kind of obvious. A movie about magic robots killing children does not usually have any deep messages. I guess the only lesson to be learned is to not fall asleep on the job.
Dialogue 4/10
There was a ton of cheesy lines, which was very disappointing. I would say throughout 90% of the movie you could predict the next line. Sometimes the dialogue didn't feel like it fit. I think they could of picked better actors for this, but to be fair their budget was only 25 million, and most of that was used on the CGI, and the movie was created during the writers strike.
Cinematography 8/10
It was actually visually stunning. The subtle references to the games mate it very enjoyable to watch. Every part of the background looked meticulously created. They did an amazing job making the animatronics look real. The main this deserves an 8/10 is because Chikas cupcake looked terrible, and Mikes house was terrible.
Soundtrack 7/10
It was pretty good. I was hoping for more sounds authentic to the videogames, but I understand why they did not include them. The "Showtime" song was a great pick. I LOVED when foxy sang running up the hallway, it was an amazing touch.
Overall 4/10
Honestly it did not live up to my expectations at all. The plot was paper thin, the whole movie was predictable, and it did not even follow the game lore. If you have never played the games before and you watched this movie, you would be confused the whole time. They did a terrible job of explaining things. I think it would be best if Scott Cawthon (FNAF creator) would stick to his games.
